Carpet underlay, does it benefit us or our homes?

Imagine you are walking on laminate flooring without shoes and socks. Yes laminate does have its uses but we know that when ever you walk into your home after a long day at the office and it is the middle of winter, you kick off your shoes and stride across the bare laminate in the hallway, you know you almost sprint for the front room as though running for safety, knowing you carpet laden room with its luxurious carpet underlay is there ready to greet you.

What about the noise as you run!

Thud, Thud as you take 10 strides across the hallway, bang as your hand or sports bag hits the floor, you slide as you make a sharp left turn from the hallway into the front room, where you sink into your carpet and close the door behind you as though keeping that cold solid floor out from your front room. Yes no carpet and no carpet underlay ensures all sounds are exaggerated.

Yes I have a really deep comfortable lounge carpet in my home but I also have an excellent and thick carpet underlay supporting it.

Don’t do one without the other and if you are to cut corners make sure it is on the carpet and not the underlay aspect of your flooring.

Ok what do we call it?
Well I have referred to it as carpet underlay, but it can be called carpet padding, carpet underlayment carpet felt and others.

What is carpet underlay?
The softness in your carpet, that deep sinking feeling that is carpet underlay. It is a layer below your carpet that is there for a number of good reasons.

Comfort underfoot
As I described above walking around your home in perfect comfort is a must for most people but more so for those who spend a good deal of time laid out on your floor in front of the fire.

Heat Insulation
Depending upon the type of underlay used you can add a great deal of heat insulation to your rooms. By ensuring you have the correct carpet underlay you will be able to keep heat inside your room and lose less to the atmosphere. What’s more your heating costs will remain low keeping your bills down.

Sound Insulation
Got a noisy neighbour below your flat, children running wild upstairs giving you regular disturbed evenings in front of the telly, using the correct carpet underlay can ensure you keep sound out of your room.

Longevity of your carpet
Yes, protect the life span of your carpets by using quality carpet underlay. Even though it is below the carpet, the fact it is there prevents the carpet from rubbing and wearing on wooden floor boards, concrete or whatever your flooring is made from.
